Olympian Gian Singh, a highly respected figure in Indian wrestling, is a recipient of the Dhyan Chand Award (2008–09) in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the sport. He proudly represented India in freestyle wrestling at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, showcasing his exceptional talent on the international stage. Throughout his illustrious career, Gian Singh achieved an impressive medal tally, winning 12 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals, while also competing in the Asian Games in 1982 and 1986. He further distinguished himself by earning bronze medals at the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Asian Wrestling Championships held in 1979, 1981, and 1987, cementing his reputation as one of India’s premier wrestlers. Beyond his achievements on the mat, he made significant contributions as a mentor and leader, serving as the Chief Coach of the Indian Wrestling Team from the 1996 Olympics through to the 2006 Asian Games, nurturing the next generation of wrestling talent. Alongside his illustrious sports career, Gian Singh also serves as a dedicated officer in the Indian Railways, balancing professional responsibilities with his lifelong commitment to advancing Indian wrestling.
