Dr. Wazir Singh Phogat is a distinguished Athletics Coach and the High-Performance Director (Athletics) at the Sports Authority of India, Head Office, New Delhi. With over 30 years of service to Indian sports, he has previously served as the National Chief Coach in Athletics, guiding athletes at the Youth Olympics, World, Asian, and Commonwealth competitions, helping them achieve international medals and prestigious national honours such as the Arjuna Award and Bhim Award. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Education focusing on elite Indian athletes and possesses professional qualifications from NS NIS Patiala, IOC Olympic Solidarity, World Athletics CECS, and UGC-NET. Dr. Phogat has authored and presented numerous research papers in reputed journals and conferences and has served as faculty at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, mentoring future coaches and leading refresher courses for state and national coaches. Currently, he leads talent identification and athlete development programs—including KIRTI, Khelo India, NCOE, STCs, and KISCE—building a strong foundation for Indian athletics. Recognized for his expertise in elite coaching, sports science, talent pathways, and high-performance management, Dr. Phogat has contributed significantly to India’s sporting excellence.
