Dr. Dalel Singh, born in Amin village near Kurukshetra, Haryana, is a celebrated Indian volleyball player and sports administrator whose career has left a lasting impact on Indian sports. Renowned for his dedication and leadership, Dr. Singh enjoyed a distinguished 12-year international career, captaining the Indian volleyball team in 1984, 1987, and 1988. He played a pivotal role in India’s bronze medal win at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul and also represented the nation at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi, where the team finished fourth. His achievements include gold medals at the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games in Calcutta (1987) and Colombo (1991), and a silver medal at Islamabad (1989), along with multiple participations in Asian and World Championships. At the national level, Dr. Singh represented Haryana for 16 years, winning numerous medals and leading the team to its first national championship gold in 1982. His excellence has been recognized with the Bhim Award (1984) and the prestigious Arjuna Award (1990). Beyond his playing career, Dr. Singh has made significant contributions as Director of Sports at Kurukshetra University, chief coach of the Indian School Volleyball Team at the 1996 Asian School Championship in Macau, and as a member of various monitoring and selection committees for Indian volleyball and the Asian Games, cementing his legacy as both a sportsman and a mentor.
