Prasanna Jayasankar is a highly accomplished basketball player, coach, and sports welfare professional, currently serving as the Chief Welfare Inspector – Sports. Prasanna is widely recognized for her groundbreaking role as the first and only female head coach in the UBA Basketball League, a testament to her leadership and expertise in the sport. She has also represented India at the prestigious Asian Basketball Confederation Championship, further cementing her status as a top-tier athlete in the international arena. As a player, Prasanna was part of the Indian team that secured a Bronze Medal at the Indira Gandhi International Invitational Tournament in 1986 and 1988 in New Delhi. Her outstanding performance on the court led to her winning 10 Gold Medals and one Silver Medal at the National Championships for Indian Railways, where she also served as the captain of the team during the Jamshedpur Senior Nationals in 1988.
Prasanna's contributions to sports have been widely recognized through numerous accolades, including the Indian Gymkhana Yesteryear Award in 2014, the Railway Week Award (GM Award) in 1992, and the Feasto Award for the Best Basketball Player of Kerala State in 1992.
