Olympian Shakti Singh, one of India’s most accomplished track and field athletes in shot put and discus throw, has left an indelible mark on Asian athletics. An Arjuna Awardee (1995), he set an Asian record in shot put with a throw of 20.60 meters in 2000 and achieved a personal best of 61.72 meters in discus throw. He won gold at the 2000 Asian Athletics Championships, and earned silver and bronze at the 1998 and 2002 Asian Games respectively. Representing India at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics, Shakti Singh exemplified strength and consistency on the global stage. A recipient of the Bhim Award (2001) from the Haryana Government, he now serves as Head Coach at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), Patiala, where he is dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of India’s throwing talent.
