Dipankar Bhattacharjee, a two-time Olympian and three-time National Badminton Champion from Assam, is the first Olympian from the state and the only badminton Olympian from Northeast India, having represented India at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympics—reaching the pre-quarterfinal stage in 1992—served as Captain of the Indian Thomas Cup Team, led India to victory in the 1996 SAARC Badminton Championship, was honoured with the Bhogeswar Baruah Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025, nominated four times for the Arjuna Award, founded and heads Dipankar’s Badminton Academy in Navi Mumbai training national and international players, and currently serves as Chief Manager (LPG Coordination) at Indian Oil Corporation Limited with over 31 years of service.
