Anusuya Barua is a multifaceted personality who has made remarkable contributions to both Indian sports and earth sciences. A trailblazer in women's sports, she was the first woman from Assam to attend India basketball trials, and captained the state basketball and handball teams, representing Assam in numerous Senior and Junior Nationals, Northeast Sports Festivals, and Women's Sports Festivals from 1974 to 2000. She later held leadership roles as Chairperson of the State Basketball Selection Committee and General Secretary of the Assam Basketball Association (2022–2024), shaping the future of the sport in the region. Parallel to her sports journey, she built a distinguished 32-year career as a Senior Geologist with the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Government of Assam, leading significant mineral investigations and development projects. A respected educator and resource person, she has contributed to officer training at CASFOS, and has taught Remote Sensing and GIS at the postgraduate level. Her career exemplifies dedication, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to empowering others—on the field, in the classroom, and in public service.
