Tayabun Nisha

Tayabun Nisha, a retired Railway employee and legendary athlete from Assam, made history as the first Assamese woman to represent India in the Asian Games, breaking a 12-year-old national record in Discus Throw in 1974. A five-time national champion, she represented India in Asian and World Veterans Championships across Japan, the USA, South Africa, and Indonesia. She has served as General Secretary of the Assam Athletics Association, Executive Member of the Board of Sports Assam, and Vice President of the Assam Olympic Association. Recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award and Axom Shreshtho Award, she continues to inspire generations through her lifelong dedication to sports.
